My Mother's Brother's Second Cousin's Barber Once Told Me...

For the past several years, I have pretty much left my personal home computer on all the time. I really don't remember where I first heard it, but somehow, I came to understand that the act of powering up my CPU, monitor, printer, and speakers consumed more energy than simply leaving it running.

Over time, the home computer has come to enjoy "refrigerator status"-- of household importance so great that it required the system to run continuously-- ever at the ready should one need to pay a bill, send a quick email, or Google an obscure fact at a moment's notice. I can't help but wonder, though, if I haven't been led down the garden path in leaving my system running for weeks and months at a time...

  1. We put ours into hibernation status for the night and when we are away from the house. I wonder what the advice of computer experts would be...
